Metamorphic Theatre Launches 2008 Season with Original Play

Halifax based theatre company, Metamorphic Theatre, is launching their 2008 season with an original play by local playwright, Caitlin Pilsworth. Pilsworth’s Living My Life in Circles will debut at BusStop Theatre, 2203 Gottingen Street, May 1-3, 2008, 8:00 pm with a 4:00 pm matinée on Saturday, May 3. Tickets are $10 at the door or can be reserved by calling (902) 429-8742. Visit metamorphic.ca for more details.

Living My Life in Circles is a continuation of last year’s inaugural Script to Stage Project,” said Samantha Madore, Metamorphic Theatre. “This beautifully written, first-draft play by Caitlin Pilsworth has been workshopped and developed into a finished, polished work.”

Directed by Leana Todd and assistant directed by Metamorphic Theatre founder, Samantha Madore, the play will feature choreography by Susie Keating. Technical director is Evan Brown and stage manager is Karen Josey with set assistance by Holly Irving.

Living My Life in Circles tells the story of Van, a young woman with a self-involved, eccentric mother and a strict Catholic aunt. These two women take turns “raising” Van in opposite environments. Frida barely acknowledges her daughter whereas Ruth showers Van with rules and regulations. Van lives most of her life telling stories from the past. Men come and go in Van’s life including a lovable handy man, a South American with bad teeth, and finally a kind-hearted stranger at a bus stop. Frida, Ruth, and Van exist in each other’s orbits but are only truly alive in Van’s stories.

Living My Life in Circles stars: Sher Clain as Ruth (Sunday in the Park with George), Andre Davey as David (The Bacchae, Pulp Fiction - LIVE!), Steven Heisler as Ed (The Threepenny Opera, All in the MacFamily), Lisa MacCormack as Frida (The House of Bernarda, Alba Under Milkwood), Allison MacDougall as Van (Soul Alone, Morning Dove), Eugene Sampang as Juan (theatrical debut).

Metamorphic Theatre Announces Winner of Script to Stage Project

Halifax based theatre company, Metamorphic Theatre, is pleased to announce that Living My Life in Circles by local playwright, Caitlin Pilsworth, has been selected out of 18 submitted scripts for their Script to Stage project, a new competition where writers submitted their first-draft stage plays for development.

“After the success of last season’s Creatures of the Moment, which went through a similar process to Script to Stage,” said Samantha Madore, Metamorphic Theatre. “We’re excited to see what Living My Life in Circles will bring with strong characters and a more female-focused cast.”

The Script to Stage competition was open to experienced and first-time playwrights. The selected script will be developed through a read-through with members of the theatre community, a series of feedback sessions and workshops with actors, culminating into a full stage production, produced by Metamorphic Theatre in March 2008.

Metamorphic Theatre Calls for Scripts for New Script to Stage Program

Halifax based theatre company, Metamorphic Theatre, is launching a new program called Script to Stage, a competition where writers can submit their first-draft stage plays for development. This competition is open to experienced and first-time playwrights. The deadline for script submissions is September 21 and there is no entry fee. Submissions can be sent to:

Halifax, NS B3K 5T9

“Metamorphic Theatre started the 2007 season with Creatures of the Moment, by Ryan Turner and Sarah Mian, which went through a similar process to Script to Stage,” said Samantha Madore, Metamorphic Theatre. “It was the first time Metamorphic produced an original play by two first-time playwrights. After seeing the success of that pilot project, we were eager to formalize the program and give other emerging playwrights the same opportunity.”

Through Script to Stage, scripts will be submitted anonymously to a selection committee and one script will be chosen. The selected script will then be developed through a public read-through in mid-November 2007, a series of feedback sessions and workshops with actors, culminating into a full stage production, produced by Metamorphic Theatre in March 2008.

In the meantime, the second play of Metamorphic’s season, Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet), will open on August 1 and run to August 11 at Chester Playhouse.

Metamorphic Theatre, which strives to translate the human experience onto the stage while promoting local works and talent, is comprised of Neptune Theatre Pre-Professional Theatre graduates Amanda Jonz and Samantha Madore and Queen’s University Music graduate Amy Reitsma.
